According to the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Scott McCowen was involved in a crash on Saturday afternoon that resulted in a visit to the Stillwater Medical Center.
The report says that Deputy McCowen was responding to a call and traveling eastbound on Highway 64 when a truck driven by Isaac Lowell Haga pulled out in front of McCowen, resulting in a collision.
The driver then proceeded to run away from the scene on foot and was eventually captured in a pasture less than a mile away.
Haga told the deputies that he ran because he didn't have a driver's license and was a convicted felon carrying a firearm. He also admitted to smoking meth.
Haga said he threw the gun away as he was running and deputies have yet to recover it, according to the report.
After a visit to the Cleveland Hospital, Haga was arrested by the OHP for the following charges:
1. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
2. Operating a vehicle under revocation
3. Possession of schedule II CDS
4. Possession of schedule I CDS
5. Leaving the scene of an injury accident
6. Failure to wear seatbelt
7. Failure to yield to oncoming traffic
Deputy McCowen was injured in the crash but is expected to make a recovery, according to the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office.
