The World Axe & Knife Throwing Championships are set to take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2024.
The four-day event is slated to be held at the WeStreet Ice Center from April 18 to 21. Contestants from across the globe will display their axe and knife throwing prowess to attain the title of world champion and a $60,000 cash prize.
There are expected to be over 380 participants from 38 U.S. states, Great Britain, Canada, and New Zealand.
“This event will not only be a fantastic way to introduce folks to the brand new WeStreet Ice Center, but a unique opportunity for Tulsa to be in front of global audiences via the ESPN broadcast,” Joel Koester, Director of Sales for the Tulsa Sports Commission, said. “We look forward to welcoming international competitors for this action-packed event this spring in partnership with WeStreet Ice Center and Got Wood Axe Throwing.”
The 140,000-square-foot venue will have a full-service restaurant, sports bar, and virtual reality arcade.
“In the past 7 years” commented Sarah Sed, incoming World Axe Throwing League Commissioner, “I’ve watched the Championship grow from a streamed event with just a handful of participants to over 350 throwers with an ESPN broadcast. This tremendous growth is all because of our passionate community of throwers, affiliates, and the WATL support staff. I’m truly looking forward to my first World Championship as Commissioner in Tulsa.”
The World Axe Throwing League and World Knife Throwing League have a membership of nearly 20,000 active players around the world.
