Organizers Prepare For Second Year Of Route 66 Christmas Chute In Sapulpa

The Route 66 Christmas Chute is returning to Sapulpa for a second year.

Organizers say they never expected the chute to be as popular as it is but say they are ready and excited for year 2.

"It put our sweet town on the map. We were one of the merriest main streets in the country last year," said Jennifer Dilley with the Route 66 Christmas Chute.

Dilley says no one expected last year to be the success it was, but she can't wait for this year, and the years to come.

"I think what's so amazing is this is going to turn into a family tradition for people; they are going to want to come back, year after year, and add that to their Christmas festivities and activities," she said.

Dilley says there's even more people can expect this year, like more photo opportunities, decorations, and activities.

Businesses in town, like Isabella's Collection, are excited the Christmas Chute is back.

"It was fun because everyone was so excited about it. It was fun to see the kids, running and screaming and looking at all the decorations," said owner Sherrie Curtis.

Sarah Lehew opened The Crossroads Cookery just before the Christmas Chute opened last year.

She says this year they are prepared for the crowds, and she loves seeing Sapulpa transformed.

"I grew up in Sapulpa and this area, and it's just been fun to see my hometown flourish and have a great thing not just for Sapulpa but for others to come and see," she said.

Organizers like Will Berry say this wouldn't be possible without the volunteers.

He says so many people have worked hard to make this what it is, and he can't wait for people to enjoy it.

"It brought people out of their house, it reconnected us after COVID, and it's just been so neat seeing the smiles on people's faces," he said.

The Route 66 Christmas Chute will officially open on November 16 with a lights-on ceremony starting at 5 and flipping the switch to turn the lights on at 6:15.
