New Trail Connections Link West Tulsa Parks

The trails on the Mooser Creek Greenway opened this week, linking several trail sections at Lubell and Bales Parks, and creating nine miles of connected, professionally built trails.

Trailheads at the two parks have parking, and the trails are suitable for mountain bike riding and hiking.

The signature element of the connection is a bare timber bridge over Mooser Creek.

“Eventually those trails kind of look like they've been there 100 years,” said Lance Miller, with Bike Club Tulsa, who helped guide the project.

Bike Club operates after school programs and training sessions to encourage people to get more active.

The trail that now ends on the West side at Lubell Park, around the closed Remington Elementary, now stops on the East side around Bales Park.

Eventually, the trails will connect to the larger system at Turkey Mountain, with an extension of the trail under Highway 75.

One path for a trail, North of I-44, is part of a federal grant to reconnect neighborhoods on either side of the highway.

Miller said links to Turkey Mountain would open up new opportunities. “Even just the new trails at Turkey Mountain, we'd start getting into 30-40 miles of professionally built, maintained trails.”
