Owner Believes Mini Donkeys Killed In Mounds Were Shot; Creek County Deputies Investigate

A Creek County family is heartbroken after their two pet mini donkeys were killed. The sheriff's office is looking into what happened.

Along the eastern side of Creek County on a rural road in Mounds, Dave Willhite is looking for answers.

“This is Lola and Lilly,” he said, about the two donkeys on the property. “They were friends of Pete and Patsy…I just wish they could talk. Cause they were here when it happened.”

Dave, who lives in Bixby, got a call Friday that his two mini donkeys were found dead.

“Some people have lap dogs. I had Pete and Patsy,” he said.

Dave recently moved his two donkeys from his old property in Beggs, to Mounds. He said the two burros on the land belong to his neighbor.

Dave has 21 years of memories with his pets.

“Had ‘em since they were babies. I got Pete when he was a year old. Patsy was six months old. They’ve never hurt a soul. They’re docile. Sweet. Love kids. Perfect pets,” Dave said. “Patsy is very serious. She’s low key. She’s real sweet. And Pete, Pete likes to play.”

The Creek County Sheriff's Office said deputies are looking into what happened, but so far have not found any evidence indicating how the donkeys were killed.

Dave believes they were shot. “I feel like they were targeted,” he said. “Somebody wanted those two dead and I have no idea why.”

While the Navy veteran looks back at his memories, he is thinking about how his future will change too.

“I wanted to build a little tiny home out here. I have ten acres and that way I could come out here and I may stay two hours with them or two days. And that was my plan,” he said.

The Willhite family said it is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
