Some changes are coming to voting districts in Tulsa and the biggest changes will happen in downtown. A few key places downtown will be in a new district the next time people vote. Councilors said they want to meet any new people they'll be representing.

The changes come as Tulsa’s population changes. Each decade after the census, boundaries move based on how many people are living in the different districts.

“The largest changes are between district 4 and district 1," said Kara Joy McKee. Kara Joy McKee is the councilor for District 4.

Some big changes are coming to her district -- namely all of the Historic Greenwood District, the Arts district and some of the Pearl and Kendall-Whittier district will now be moved out of District 4 over to District 1. That means everything north of 3rd street will be District 1 and south of 3rd would be District 4.

District 4 will get some neighborhoods west of Gilcrease Museum road.

“The entire Greenwood district will be returned to District 1," said Vanessa Hall-Harper. "We were able to accomplish that.” District 1 councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper said having all of Greenwood in one district makes sense.

She said she and councilor McKee plan to work together to meet the new people in their respective districts. “In those districts, I've got a team downtown," she said.

People in Tulsa county will get new voter cards to show their new precincts and voting locations. Mckee and Hall-Harper said regardless of what the map says, they represent all of Tulsa.

“It’s our job to represent all of Tulsa and I'm going to keep doing that," said McKee.

"I'm going to work hard for my constituents regardless of what the boundaries are," said Hall-Harper.

Councilors voted on the changes on Wednesday morning, April 6. "As proposed, tonight we voted for District 4 will give District 1 North Downtown from 3rd Street to the upper curve of the IDL, as well as part of Pearl and Kendall-Whittier neighborhoods from 6th Street up to 2-44 and Lewis Ave. West to the IDL. At the same time, District 1 will give District 4 the neighborhoods west of Gilcrease Museum Road between the river and up to Edison Street," Tulsa City Councilor, Kara Joy McKee said.
