Green Country Habitat for Humanity is celebrating a new expansion today. The organization opened its newest ReStore location in Broken Arrow.
Cameron Walker, president of the nonprofit, said all the proceeds from the store fund the mission to address the housing crisis in Oklahoma.
"The ReStore is a meaningful piece of our puzzle and we couldn't be more thrilled to be here in Broken Arrow," said Walker.
ReStores are home improvement outlets selling new and recycled furniture, appliances, paint and more.
"We feel a real responsibility and drive to do as much as we can for as many communities as we can in northeast Oklahoma," said Walker.
This is the habitat's 5th ReStore location with 2 in Tulsa, 1 in Jenks and another in Claremore.
Cameron Walker said he hopes it's not the last, because the housing crisis isn't only in major metro areas.
"We eventually want to be able to expand beyond even our reach now and help rural areas," said Walker.
The Broken Arrow Mayor, Debra Wimpee, said getting a ReStore is quite fitting. She hopes this will restore an area that the city has been trying to revitalize.
"It's a perfect thing to add to our city, especially in this area. Because what we've been working on is restoring New Orleans Square." said Debra Wimpee.
She said she's excited about having the organization in Broken Arrow.
"The mission behind the ReStore stores are amazing and for it to be in Broken Arrow, we're just so excited to have them come and invest in our city and be part and be able to come over here and support them as well," said Wimpee.
The store is located at 728 W. New Orleans St. Broken Arrow, OK 74011.
