An Oklahoma judge is temporarily blocking two new state laws restricting abortion access from going into effect next month, but will allow three others to go forward.
Oklahoma County judge Cindy Truong will not allow the so-called “heartbeat bill” and a law calling abortions “unprofessional conduct” from going into effect November 1.
The first law would ban abortions after a heartbeat is detected, which is usually around six weeks and before many women know they’re pregnant.
The second would put doctors who perform abortions at risk of losing their medical licenses.
Judge Truong did permit laws that require a doctor who performs abortions to be a licensed OB-GYN. Two other laws that will go into effect regulate the prescription and licensing surrounding abortion-inducing drugs.
