Governor Kevin Stitt has submitted the first ever audit request of the Oklahoma State Department of Education. This comes as OSDE received a more than $3 billion investment.
He submitted the request after a past audit discovered EPIC Charter Schools had misused funds.
The request will specifically demand identification of all revenue sources OSDE has received including federal funds, state appropriations, taxes and fees. It will also determine if schools are complying with financial transaction reporting requirements.
In November 2020, 22 legislators asked Governor Stitt to request a full investigative audit of the Oklahoma State Department of Education after State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd found evidence of misuse of funds during an audit of EPIC Charter Schools.
