The organizers of a food pantry in Skiatook said they are frustrated after learning someone stole the catalytic converter off of a van used to collect food for a second time. They are grateful someone stepped up to help them get the van running again and are planning to file a report with Skiatook Police.
Suzanne Truax is a volunteer with Heaven Sent Food Pantry in Skiatook and said they serve several families in different towns scattered throughout Osage and Washington counties. Truax said they noticed an abnormal noise coming from the van when they were going to get food for the pantry on Monday morning.
Truax said they later discovered the catalytic converter had been taken off the food pantry van and on two other vans located on a church property. She said the van is already old and frequently used, and this is the second time thieves have targeted it.
Despite the inconvenience, Truax said they still drove the van on Monday because they had families to serve.
“I’m like, well dang it,” said Truax. “We did drive it as was because we did have to make a pickup.”
Truax said someone in the community has stepped up to fix the van. They plan to file a report with Skiatook Police on Wednesday.
They are also working to raise money for a box truck to help them complete their deliveries.
