OSBI Identifies 2 Men Injured In Double Shooting In Sequoyah County

Law enforcement officers from across the state are searching right now for a shooting suspect who they say is armed and dangerous.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the man shot two good Samaritans in Sequoyah County and is responsible for a carjacking in Oklahoma City. OSBI says the victims are John Riggs and Jake Meyers. They say the two men were shot and left for dead along I-40.

OSBI says the suspect was caught on surveillance video at the Loves gas station in Vian. OSBI has named Lee King as a person of interest in the shooting. Investigators believe the victims were driving along I-40 when they came across the suspect who had run out of gas.

They say the victims drove the suspect to a nearby gas station, then after they drove him back to his car, they believe the suspect shot them.

“This has been all hands on deck looking for this guy, hoping to get him into custody before something else happens,” said Brook Arbeitman with OSBI.

Investigators say the suspect left the shooting scene in a car he had stolen from Oklahoma City earlier in the day.

They say at one point, Antlers Police spotted the suspect’s car and chased him, but they say he eventually ditched the vehicle and ran into the woods and got away.

“Oklahoma City Police is down in Antlers trying to help process the vehicle, we’ve got OHP out looking for the suspect, along with multiple sheriffs offices and police departments are down in that area,” said Arbeitman.

OSBI says evidence from the car makes them believe the suspect could be headed to either Shreveport Louisiana or Houston Texas.

They say right now they don’t know what led to the shooting.

“When we get a chance to talk to them maybe they can shed some light, like was there an altercation? What happened that led up to it? But either way, they did not deserve to be shot for helping somebody out and being good Samaritan’s,” said Arbeitman. “It’s critical to get him off the street. He’s already been involved in shooting multiple people. Thankfully no one has been killed at this point in time but we’ve got some severe injuries and he’s considered armed and dangerous.”

OSBI says the two victims are still in the hospital but are expected to survive. OSBI asks anyone who knows anything about the suspect to call OSBI at 800-522-8017.
