Osage County officials expect work to begin in the coming weeks to North 52nd West Avenue at the Hominy Creek bridge near Skiatook. Most of the road fell into the creek last week because of a heavy intake of water.
Commissioner Steve Talburt said the plan is to build a temporary road around the crumbled area. He said the county is in the final stages of making an agreement to build the temporary road with a landowner in the area.
Talburt said heavy rains and water being released from the dam at Skiatook Lake contributed to the erosion of the road into the creek. This week, Talburt said engineers have been surveying the area.
More parts of the road continued to slide into the creek this week. Talburt said the plan is to dig into an area where rocks can be used to stop more of the area from sinking.
Talburt said early estimates on the project could be at least $200,000. He said most of the cost will fall on Osage County.
“It’s going to be next week before we can get all of the paperwork; they have to do some surveys and thinks like that,” said Talburt. “After we get all the legal part done we should be able to start construction on the temporary road.”
Talburt said before anything happens the county commissioners will have to approve the plans. He expects construction to begin within the next two weeks.
