May's Impactful Teacher of the month is Whitney Hanson. Mrs. Hanson teaches first grade at Wolf Creek Elementary in Broken Arrow
She is a Jenks graduate who went to college on a basketball scholarship at Wichita State.
Mrs. Hanson is a big believer in hands-on learning and works with her students doing science experiments and engaging in lots of interaction.
According to Mrs. Hanson, she had not planned on being a teacher but it just worked out that way.
"I was pursuing my degree in speech-language pathology and then God brought me through working with special needs children and children with autism and I ended up getting alternatively certified as a teacher and that's how I"m teaching first grade now and it's been exactly, it's been the perfect path," said Mrs. Hanson.
Mrs. Hanson has had a pretty tough year. She was diagnosed with Covid and spent a week in the hospital. But she's been back in the classroom and is going strong.
Mrs. Hanson loves what she does and the students love her.
As a reward for being selected as May's Impactful Teacher, Whitney Hanson is getting $1,000 to spend however she likes thanks to T-Mobile.
