Purple Heart Medal Returned To Nephew Of WWII Paratrooper

The nephew of a World War II paratrooper was surprised with a framed display of his uncle's Purple Heart.

Private 1st Class Thomas Dowda died when his transport plane was shot down by German forces in 1945. In Broken Arrow "Purple Hearts Re-United" presented Dowda's Purple Heart to his nephew Robert.

"I've always considered him a hero, my dad too of course. He made the ultimate sacrifice, giving your life up for your country is pretty special," said Robert Titsworth

"Purple Hearts Re-united" has returned war medals and artifacts to more than 850 families and museums.
